GALA DINNER
The Miami Chapter held its Gala Dinner on March 12, 2008 at the Westin Diplomat Hotel in Hollywood, Florida. A sold-out attendance of near 1,100 community supporters gathered to celebrate Israel’s 60th anniversary.
Dinner Chairs Irma and Norman Braman led the program which highlighted the sacrifices made by our IDF lone soldiers – boys and girls who have left families and loved ones around the world and enlisted in the IDF to protect and secure the State of Israel.
The honorees for the evening were seven distinguished Rabbis from our community who have served over 15 years in their congregations and have devoted their lives to ensuring the strength, vitality and security of the State of Israel. The honorees were Rabbi Mayer Abramowitz, Rabbi Yehuda Benhamu, Rabbi Edwin Farber, Rabbi Gary Glickstein, Rabbi Edwin Goldberg, Rabbi Sholom Lipskar and Rabbi Eliot Pearlson.

Major General Beni Gantz, IDF Defense and Armed Forces Attache, Washington, D.C. gave the inspiring keynote address. Dinner guests also enjoyed a silent and live auction of unique items donated for the evening. On the day following the Gala dinner, a special luncheon was held in order to speak to a select group of donors about the importance of the DIGNITY program.

PURIM BASH
On March 29, 2008, over 600 Young Professionals in the Miami-Dade community danced and partied at a private estate in Golden Beach at the 6th Annual Purim Bash hosted by our Young Leadership Division. The theme was a white masquerade and everyone who attended dressed in chic South Florida white hot fashion! Kol Hakavod to a hard working Young Leadership group.

Enjoying the Purim festivities!

YOM HA’ATZMAUT
Miami celebrated 60 years of Israel’s independence at two community-wide events held in honor of Yom Ha’atzmaut. On Wednesday, May 7 our North Dade community gathered at the Michael-Ann Russell Jewish Community center to celebrate this special day. The activities started with a solidarity walk and continued the FIDF Boot Camp which included challenging sport activities and obstacle courses. On Thursday evening, May 8, the South Dade community came together at the Dave and Mary Alper JCC in South Dade for live music, an Israel carnival, Israeli food and our 2nd Annual FIDF Hoop-a-thon. The Hoop-a-thon fundraiser was being organized by a group of B’nai Mitzvah teens as a Mitzvah project for the IDF soldiers. All proceeds from the Hoop-a thon are donated to the Friends of the IDF.
