John Klein ()

The State of Israel lost one of her bravest holocaust survivors as the Friends of the IDF lost one of its biggest founders.

John courageously carried out and spread the job of the FIDF from the moment he joined us until the very end. Overwhelmed with passion and vision, he initiated the New York Gala Dinner 20 years ago.

John will forever be in our hearts and memories. His exceptional life has inspired us all. His heroic character, love and passion for Israel and its soldiers are the virtues that will forever be alive.

FIDF New York Headline News

The Westchester / Connecticut Second Annual Gala

The Westchester / Connecticut Chapter of the Friends of the IDF Second Annual Gala was held on December 10, 2005 at Brae Burn Country Club in Purchase, NY. The event was a great success. There were 400 participants and over $400,000 was raised.
At the event, the FIDF honored Kenneth and Nira Abramowitz and Barbara Fix, who are valued members of our community and have been longtime supporters of the FIDF.
Our Keynote speaker was Major General Yisrael Ziv, former Head of Operations, IDF. We also had a performance of the wonderful IDF Ensemble, and First Lieutenant Yonathan Reches spoke about his IDF job as a paratrooper.
The Westchester/Connecticut Chapter of the FIDF, which so successfully completed the fundraising project for the Cultural Hall for the Paratrooper Brigade at Beit Lid two years ago, has once again committed to a capital project of major importance. The current project is a Social and Meeting Hall for the soldiers at the to-be-constructed base at Reim, located near the Gaza Strip. The cost of the project is approximately $1 million. The goal of the community is to raise the funds within the next two years. All donations from this year's Annual Gala will go towards the project.
The participants enjoyed the Israeli theme of the evening, from the Israeli food to the Israeli dancing, and united as one family to salute the brave men and women of the IDF. This year's event also demonstrated the magnificent growth in the number of people from the Jewish Community in Westchester and Connecticut who have become a part of the FIDF family and who stand behind the Israeli soldiers with all their heart and soul.
